The most obvious difference between rocksteady and ska is the tempo. While it was not unusual for ska recordings to Steady Rocking When ska began its change into the more sophisticated-sounding Rock Steady during the mid-60s singers came into their own. While the tempo remained about the same Rock Steady carried a relaxed rhythmic density. In Rock Steady the guitar only strums on beats 2 & 4, and the bass guitar emphasizes beats 1 & 3. Rocksteady was ska’s immediate successor, gaining popularity in the mid-1960’s just as ska’s heyday was ending. The styles are rhythmically similar, as rocksteady retains the offbeat rhythm.

Very true, ska was the precursor to reggae. If ska and rocksteady had a one night stand, reggae is the child. I'm not into reggae for a few reasons. Although very close in tempo I can't get into it. For the same reason I like speed metal but not death metal. More importantly the culture of reggae is not for me and I'll leave it at that.

As a verb music is to seduce or entice with music. 2010-03-06 2008-09-12 Two-tone or 2 tone is a genre of British popular music of the late 1970s and early 1980s that fused traditional Jamaican ska music with elements of punk rock and new wave music. Its name derives from 2 Tone Records, a record label founded in 1979 by Jerry Dammers of The Specials, and references a desire to transcend and defuse racial tensions in Thatcher-era Britain: many two-tone groups, such ska is earliest, and apparently rocksteady is birthed out of an incredibly hot summer in jamaica ('67?) wherein the dancing rhythms had to be much slower so as to not overheat the dancefloor. think most roots reggae stems from Bob Marley's work with Scratch and the success of that sort of conscientious thought in popular music. i've never read up on the histories though, so i may not be correct.
